The wife of PTI Secretary General Asad Umar submitted a habeas corpus petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday in order to have her husband released from the Lahore police's "improper, illegal, and unlawful" custody.
As part of the PTI's "Jail Bharo Tehreek" (court arrest campaign), which is intended to counter the "attack" on the party's basic rights and the economic "meltdown," Umar and other top PTI leaders courted arrest in Lahore on Wednesday.
The Central Prison in Lahore was then where Umar was sent.
Umar's wife submitted a habeas corpus petition under Articles 4 and 9 of the Constitution with the assistance of Barrister Umair Niazi, Attorney Waqar Mushtaq Toor, and Attorney Haider Majeed. Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rafia Haider was named in the petition.
